First of all
one must drive slow to reach Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery. And then one must halt, stop, and park the vehicle by the tree that has been there for more years than fit in our life-time.

Secondly
one must see the tranquility in the church, in the yard. One must see in one's mind the hands that made all the icons, all the carved wood, the metal work, the brushstrokes, the chairs with the high backs, the arches high above one's head...

Thirdly
one must step into the monastery's shop for wines, icons... to take it slow with the attending brother.
Why?
Because one was in a hurry to find out where the Kolios Winery is (it is just a few miles up the road from the monastery, as we found out with the help of the brother). And because we took our impatient time, to our happiness, to a slowmotion. We picked wines from the shelves. We gave Kolios Winery's leaflet to the brother for reasons of getting driving instructions. And we received the intructions, and a slow moment while the brother read thoroughly through every description on the Kolios wines. With true interest.

Fourthly
we thank for the time the brother took to read patiently. - It gave us a knowledge and an assurance that the brother was, and this monastery is, sincerely interested in wine! And how true he is.

This wine
is a very professionally made wine from local, fine grapes on Cyprus. A pleasant nose greets you first. The first sip is a bit "tight". And then one remembers to "take it in slow-motion". Within 10-20 minutes this wine reveals it's maratheftiko black-currant, and a slowly lingering aftertaste. And it gives us an experience with wines that is to be remembered with pleasure.

The back label says:
"AYIOS ELIAS" is a wine produced from "Mavro", "Maratheftiko" and "Ofthalmo", local black grapes, which are grown on the plateau of Chrysorrogiatissa mountain at heights over 1200 meters.
"AYIOS ELIAS" got it's name from the highest mountain peak. Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery has a rich heritage and tradition in wine-making from grapes grown in its own vineyard which, from existing evidence, dates back of 1751.
All bottles are numbered.

That's what is said on the back label. And as you can see on the label, my bottle is the 51274th enjoyment from the 2002 vintage.
